"If you have something that is of superior quality, and you look after it,
it will last you forever"

F412 JWV
First registered and pre delivery inspected by Rivervale of Brighton Mercedes
Benz dealer on 28 10 1988. This stunning 190 remained in the first owners
possession (a Lady) for 16 years until March 2004. When she parted with it
the mileage was 18376. In her tenure she returned to the supplying dealer
for all the servicing, the maintenance booklet details no less than 11
service stamps from Rivervale MB. It has all the original handbooks intact,
a full set of tools and spare wheel plus two keys. Now covered a very low
warranted mileage of 59,406 miles which is 100 % correct with supporting bills
and MOTs through the years. This 190 is as fresh as a daisy, immaculate engine
bay, door inners, boot, immaculate cabin, clean corrosion free underside, and
drives like a new car mechanically. The colour (Light Ivory) is rather rare and
very period complimented perfectly with the light Brown cabin.

As it left the factory with a great specification. Automatic gearbox, power steering,
4 electric windows, passenger side electric mirror, centre armrest, electric
sunroof, factory colour coded spoiler, original fitted carpet mats with matching
over mats. A more contemporary CD player has been fitted.

Engine Size - 1,997 cc
Chassis No - WDB2010242F547584
Engine No - 1029622209818

Condition - Show Condition
It’s not a restored car, rather a beautiful original survivor. Original paint
throughout which retains a wonderful finish. The interior is in excellent
condition as pictured with no wear indicators at all. This example can be
driven right into your garage and brought back out when its time to visit
the shows. The engine bay is pristine, as is the boot. Starts first time
every time with a recent battery being fitted. The operation of the gears
and brakes etc are superb, the suspension is like driving on air, soft
and supple and has real grace. The steering so fluid and precise. Mechanically
and bodily as good as it gets, you will not find better. The interior is
just super clean.

Service History/ Recent work
A total of 12 service in the original service booklet, though this is just the
tip of the iceberg, consistent monies have been spent to ensure the car performs
as it should, its been a loved car that has been garaged and cherished. The most
recent owner from Wales had a small collection and kept it carefully preserved.
A summary of recent work is documented below, this encompasses the last few
thousand miles and most recent years. For me the 2.0 122 bhp is the pick
of the bunch, plenty power, and very economical.

- Major service - inclusive of oil and filter, air filter, spark plugs, engine
oil flush, synthetic engine oil, distributor cap, rotor arm, front brake pads,
and fuel injection service.
- Differential oil replaced.
- Valve stem oil seals replaced.
- All inlet exhaust seals replaced.
- Engine tuned.
- Automatic gearbox checked and serviced, modulator pressure set.
- Front prop shaft coupling replaced, plus all nuts bolts and washers.
- New trailing arms and bushes.
- New fuel sender unit.
- New wiper blade.
- New Mercedes Star for bonnet.

The W201
These cars were made during the best years of MB and are vastly superior to
the inferior build quality C Class that replaced it. They were truly
over-developed which is why they commanded such high prices when new. Mercedes
continue to trade of this reputation despite it peaking in this era, simply put,
there is nothing like it. In fact, it’s a miracle that Mercedes actually
managed to manufacture it at all retaining a margin of profit such are the
high levels of engineering, quality materials and detail present in putting
it all together. Certainly could not be done today, mainly as these materials
and processes are no longer employed in the mass production car business,
and, it would be a non-profit exercise!
From January 1974 to January 1982, Mercedes spent over £600 million researching
and developing the 190 and subsequently said it was 'massively over-engineered'.
It marked a new venture for Mercedes-Benz, finally giving it a new smaller
model to compete with the likes of the Audi 80, BMW 3 Series and Saab 900.

Investing your money in this car is a safe prospect. The build quality and
craftsmanship on these eras of Mercs will never be seen again. Values of
good original W201 models are rising year on year. This example is a real
gem and is easily the nicest one I have come across for many years.
