Mercedes-Benz 500 SL 4 Speed Auto- Low Mileage, Original Example Date of Registration: 16.01.1985

B909 HAN
This Mercedes-Benz 500 SL, from the iconic R107 series,
stands in arguably the most desirable of colour combinations.
The market offers several R107 models available though
narrowing down a later full fat 500 is not an easy
task, good 500s are recognised as the sweet spot of
ownership and as such are becoming coveted.

This beauty has had only three keepers from new with the
first Lady’s tenure lasting over 31 yrs. It was purchased
new from Rivervale Motors (Pangbourne) in Reading on the
16th January 1985.
Mrs G continued to have the car serviced and annually
tested at the same supplying dealer all the time she owned
it.
In 10.06.2006 the second keeper ( A Mr G from Wokingham)
took tenure at around 29000 miles owning just under 10 yrs,
trading it into Hartford Classics who then sold it to the
third keeper ( A Mr P from Farnham) on 14.01.2016.
The SL has formed part of an impressive collection of
exotics since then until now.
A receipt from the classic dealer is in the file confirming
the sale to the last owner in 2016 for the sum of £30000,
the mileage was 38000 at this point. The full V5 ownership
record is also present.

The original factory service booklet details in excess
of 25 service entries almost all exclusively MB dealer
plus other associated fluid changes and is preserved in
good order.
An entire paper MOT record is present from 1989 to 2006
until computerised record began. This is very rare to
find in classics that are 40 + years old where low
mileages can be a challenge to definitively establish,
this puts the mileage on this example beyond reproach.
Accompanied by its original hardtop, complete tool kit
with hood spanner, first aid kit, fire extinguisher,
full size spare alloy and tyre in excellent condition,
an aftermarket immobiliser and a period Alpine stereo.
The original factory Blaupunkt stereo is present.

Now MOT & road tax exempt and has been since Jan 25, for
peace of mind a new test will be carried out.

Condition
The 5. 0L V8 engine starts reliably and runs wonderfully,
delivering smooth performance through the 4 - speed
transmission as expected with such low miles.
The 500 is very enjoyable with the V8, and most
desirable of the R107 series.
All fluids are clean, the battery is kept on charger,
she runs like a fine watch, the engines rarely cause
problems unless neglected.
All dash interior bulbs recently replaced at great time
cost, looks superb.

The Astral Silver paintwork is in excellent condition and
a personal favourite of my own and other aficionados of the
series, lending itself well to the abundance of chrome work
throughout. There are virtually no blemishes that detract
from its appearance. All trim, badges, and hardtop are
well-preserved, the glass gleams as new with no delamination,
the whole vehicle displays no tangible wear or corrosion
with just the lightest of patina.

The fifteen hole wheels are fitted with a matching set of
brand new tyres.

The R107 is nick named Panzerwagen for a good reason. The
door shuts like a bank vault, the whole feel on the move
is that of a rolling fortress. The interior (MB Tex) is
some kind of upholstery kevlar never seen since.
Keen observers and admirers of the mark will glean
from the many images the original factory interior wholly
untouched - as is nigh on impossible to replicate. Note,
original factory welting on door cards and steering wheel
which looks barely handled, giving a clear indicator on
how this SL has lived and crucially been stored.

The engine bay is remarkable also, with the protective wax
applied in the factory at some point in 1984 still doing
its job.
The interior is truly on a time warp level, showing no
notable wear, with tears, or fading, consistent with
the car’s low mileage and careful ownership.
All interior trim and carpets are clean and undamaged,
the boot area carpet completely unspoiled, and its clear
its lived a dry life with no damp.

The vehicle came direct to me in a covered box trailer
and has been stored in a temp controlled stored environment.
For good measure I have applied a quality wax and it
looks marvellous.

Conclusion
B707 HAN has been cherished through minimal ownership,
covering a warranted low mileage from new. The R107 series
has firmly rooted iconic classic grand tourer status and
remains popular for its teutonic build quality and incredible
styling. Very little else post war is really assembled like
this, and that is the lasting impression, unless its another
Mercedes. An incredibly well-preserved genuine 500 the likes
of which this represents are getting hard to find, it has
and can only endure.
