1980 PORSCHE 924 TURBO SERIES 1 932 (1979 build date) Pearlescent White / Pascha Interior 24 Stamp Service Record - Massive History File Matching numbers with heritage certificate Turbo Series 1 - A Pure Bred Sports Car A model that arose out of the need to bridge the gap between the basic 924s and the more powerful 911s. Having already found the benefits of turbochargers on several race cars and crucially 1975 911 Turbo, Porsche chose to use this technology for the 924, eventually introducing the 924 Turbo as a 1978 model. The model remains as rare and elusive today as it was then and trying to find a really good one is a hard ask. Over the last 20 years I have owned hundreds of Porsche models though only two 924 Turbos. This is a real hardcore engine engineered to an extremely high standard, offering a heady 177 bhp for the era and the character of the car is wonderful, the dogleg gearbox and turbo rush make each drive memorable. The years have not blunted the performance and on a back road this car really shifts with sharp handling, point to point its very satisfying indeed. Thus Series 1 was First registered January 1980 but is a 1979 build (confirmed on Porsche Certificate of Authenticity) so is eligible for more classic classes opening up the potential of the ownership experience.. Chassis : 93A0140769 Engine : 1984 CC 4 cylinder turbocharged Engine no : 31012782/M31/01 Build date : November 1979 DOR : 15 01 1980 Reg : GJT 45V The Drive The engine runs well with excellent oil pressure. Gear change is tight & supple and not wishy washy as some dogleg changes are that can be hard to master. On the road manners are impeccable with sure grip from the tyres and brakes, the whole experience is very tight and solid, a clear indicator of ongoing care. Original 15 " rims providing a comfortable experience on a level that modern sports cars can never replicate. The whole impression is of a car that still feels fresh and usable moving as one whole piece with excellent suspension and a wonderful deep burble to the exhaust designed by powerflow. Note : I have the original Soram exhaust to give the car its stock look when fitted. This is bubble wrapped for the next owner to so as they wish. Documented speedo change at 68000 miles in the file and the clocks show 63000 miles so a total of 131,000 miles. Condition Externally the coachwork is tidy with no problem areas and its tidy underside too. Every panel looks original too and this is very much an original survivor that has not been tampered with and has stood the test of time. Aboard the cabin time has literally been standing still with little wear indicators to seats doors cards or any leathers worth comment, a particularly sharp vehicle internally with original carpets and mats in wonderfully preserved order which is the general theme throughout, all in full working order that means all switchgear is working well. The shell is 100 % solid in all areas with no observable rust. The alloys are immaculate having been properly cut and finished and are in perfect condition. Aside slow movement to the electric windows everything works correctly, which is remarkable for what is a 40 year old sports car. Note : Resprayed in Pearl White, original colour was Alpine White, done at least 15 years ago and a proper job which has stood up well. As with nearly all 924 models some dash cracking is apparent, this is pictured. Service Information Very well maintained with a large box file of service receipts and MOTs dating back to the late 80s, an impressive record to bolster the service booklet which has 24 stamps, this being the tip of the iceberg. There are no outstanding matters and it drives exactly as Porsche intended it to. Not used much in the last few years so I have given it a good going over and drove it personally over 100 miles upon purchase. Since then I have renewed the following parts below just last week setting it up for use. As a matter of course it will get a fresh MOT when it sells and this will be the last required, as come Jan 2020 it will be MOT exempt. - Oil and fliter changed - Air filter - Fuel filter - Spark plugs renewed - New distributor cap - Rotor arm changed - New fuel pump relay - New boost presure switch - All brake pads renewed, calipers serviced - Fan belt tightened - All four wheels balanced - Engine tuned Summary An example with such genuine condition is surely to be coveted and cherished. An almost unrivaled 924 turbo in the current market in this price range, ready to be appreciated stored and maintained in the manner it has clearly been accustomed. This scarcely available model is nothing other than a pleasure to be handling and have grown very fond of gazing and marveling at the utter originality of it, the classic clean lines offer a simplicity that is perhaps not yet fully appreciated truth be told, a car that captivates you very easily and truly deserves a climate to be kept in. The 924 model is 40 years old now, the Turbo is a surefire Blue chip investment Porsche with prices rising sharply, this next Summer will doubtless see gains on these values. Get ahead of the revival with the rarest model of them all. The car is in step in and drive condition.
