It was then sold to its first private owner, a Mr Hedges of Dover, Kent, who owned the car until August 1995 when it was then traded back into the supplying dealer. Mr Denham who was still sales manager decided to buy it as his own personal car as he had been looking after the customer and was very fond of it. Sadly in 1997 he died suddenly. The family simply laid the car up in the garage at the family home. There it stayed until being purchased by its third owner a Mr Humphries of Dover in 2013. The 3rd owner knew of the car as his friend had been the workshop foreman for Hollis motors, he had been trying to buy it for many years however the widow was unable to part with it. The last MOT in 1997 shows the mileage to be 32,650. The current mileage has just turned 34,000 miles. Mr Humphries bought the car in 2013 and set about a light recommission as detailed below. The car had been kept in a warm garage and time had essentially stood still. For the last 6 years it has covered just over 1500 miles being used every other weekend by the most recent owner and he has cherished it. The V5 shows 3 previous keepers. The car has resided on the South coast its whole life. Servicing & Maintenance The accompanying ring binder of bills contains an MOT history that dates back to 1993 to 1998 at 32650 miles. The service book details 7 entries with a paperwork record for each service by the dealer up to 32658 in 1996. When Mr Humphries bought the Sport it needed very little other than major service and belts, tyres, and a genuine new fuel tank as the fuel had gone stale. It also received new brake discs and pads all round with a fluid change. The underside is in superb condition with needless to say no welding or corrosion. All documentation relating to Audi dealer servicing is present in the file. Every MOT the car has ever had is also available. 23.08.1991 Hollis Motors Audi - PDI 08.06.1992 Hollis Motors Audi - 9910 miles 30.06.1993 Hollis Motors Audi - 19246 miles 10.08.1994 Hollis Motors Audi - 29130 miles 11.08.1995 Hollis Motors Audi - 31822 miles 04.09.1996 Hollis Motors Audi - 32568 miles 16.04.2014 Independent - 32769 miles 14.04.2016 Independent - 33714 miles Since being recommissioned in 2014 various bits of work have been undertaken, however, given its very low mileage and perfect storage very little was required, much of it precautionary. The car was started up and rocked back and forth according to the most recent owner throughout its storage period by the owners son, it was driven around the driveway and put back in once a month and accumulated 12 miles in that time by doing just that. - 4 new tyres - Major service of all fluids - New battery - Brakes stripped and cleaned, new pads and regulator valve - New rocker cover gaskets - New petrol tank - New drive belts - Complete brake overhaul The B3 An Audi of this vintage is for someone who really appreciates the nature of it, the build quality is class leading, the longevity of the materials used in the manufacturing process are absolute top quality, and its a very well-engineered package, a joy to drive and a unique driving experience. The mechanicals in this model are stuff of legends, we hear story’s of monstrous mileages without overhauls, with such a very low mileage the engine has lots of power and feels barely run in, the engine bay presents as new. Finding one today is difficult — and locating an unmodified example that has never been bumped or the panels removed is nigh impossible. The 90’s all-business cabin is pure Germano-functional luxury. The interior also contains a trio of gauges made by VDO that were common to the era’s autobahn missiles. It’s safe to say that the 80 2.0E was conceived at a time when Audi was struggling to find its identity — the brand was still buzzing from its domination of the World Rally Championship, but it was also trying to make inroads into the luxury-car market. Of this existential struggle, there is no better example than the 80 and 90 models. The 2.0E The 2.0E motronic fuel injected engine was paired only with front-wheel drive, and a five-speed manual transmission. Developing 120 bhp, it does not sound much however this car really fly’s, it feels like a GTi. The four-cylinder demands that you keep the tachometer needle aimed high for press on thrills, there’s a stiff spot in the accelerator pedal’s travel that tells you when you’ve begun to open the secondary throttle butterfly — and that’s when the real music starts. Investment - Time has stood still for this Audi A very special Audi 80, all original, never been meddled with. These vehicles have begun to reach iconic status and are contemporary classics already, to have this impressive and desirable low mileage low keepers’ car is a treat and I have debated whether to keep it long term, if I don’t get the money for it that’s what will happen. It really belongs in a museum or part of a serious collection. The many detailed images should leave no doubt as to what we have here. I have owned thousands of cars, very few of them have been as special as this. Very difficult to put a value on something as original as this. Totally original car as it left the factory. £8,999 |
