| 1982 W123 MERCEDES 200 4 SPEED MANUAL
SALOON - 73000 MILES Appreciating Classic - Excellent Condition 2 Keepers From New - Lady Owned Since 1990 Original Factory Specification Bright Yellow - Webasto Sunroof " If you have something that is of superior quality, and you look after it, it will last you forever " AHA 641Y First registered and pre delivery inspected by Carols Motors, Penn Rd, Wolverhampton on 21-07-1982 to a Mr Davis of Bilston. The car still wears its supplying dealer number plates and has all the original handbooks intact. Mr Davis was custodian for the first 4 years whereupon it was sold to a Mr Plimmer of Telford in 1986 moving into his wifes name in 1990. As the Lady advanced in years she used her Mercedes less and less though ensured it was ready for use having it MOTD every year with no gaps. Some years the car has done virtually no mileage at all, used for occasional trips to the Rotary club when a lift was not available. This 200 has always been garaged in her tenure, evidenced by the preserved state of the body and bone dry interior. Highly original and never tampered with right down to the original radio cassette player, serviced regular by her local garage, 100 % solid and rather a nice car the likes of which is really difficult to find now. The W123 These cars were made during the best years of MB and are vastly superior to the poor build quality of the later models that replaced it. They were truly over-developed which is why they commanded such high prices when new. To this end they were very much cost prohibitive and retained remarkable residual values over the 35 years that has elapsed, now they are starting to rise again as there is simply put," nothing like it ". In fact its a miracle that Mercedes actually managed to manufacture it all with a margin of profit such are the high levels of engineering, quality materials and detail present in putting it all together. Certainly could not be done now mainly as these materials and processes are no longer employed in the mass production car business, and it would be a non profit exercise! Condition Unique among W123s, this example has never experienced neglect. The condition of this car is in many areas like factory new, with nothing changed from the standard specification. Its not a restored car, rather an original survivor. This particular example is among the best left with an incredibly appealing ambience. This 200 has a perfect condition light and airy quality fabric with a half leather interior to the seats, the door cards and dashboard inlays, the carpets present like new. Mostly original paint throughout which still shines with only a few areas that let it down when examined closely however totally solid. The interior is like new having had a set of seat covers fitted since brand new only being removed when I took ownership. The passenger seat and rear seats have virtually never been sat in. The boot, tools, etc are all in amazing condition. The underside is completely free of fluid leaks, again, almost unprecedented in my experience for a car of this vintage that has not benefited from a nut and bolt restoration. The interior has a wonderful aroma of gentle patination, no hint of mold or damp that so often tarnishes the interiors of elderly luxury cars. All chrome is excellent with no pitting. Being the base model 200 it has manually operated mirrors, sunroof and windows and is all more period for it. There is virtually nothing that can go wrong with these cars in this spec, such a low mileage, the engine is fantastic, starts first time every time with a recent Bosch battery being fitted. The operation of the gears and clutch are light, the suspension is like driving on air, soft and supple and has real grace. The steering so fluid and precise. The factory colour coded hub caps set the look off well, the tyres are old though still doing the job, factory mudflap pack too. Ready to be used and enjoyed. The 200 utilizes the 4 cylinder carburetor engine that can do now wrong, time proven to be more reliable than the larger fuel injected engines. The 4 speed manual gearbox does the job well with perfect ratios and the car is at ease with either city country or highway driving, and it gets along the road if need be returning respectable fuel consumption along the way. One of the most reliable Mercedes engines ever made capable of a million miles without overhaul. Investing your money in this model is a safe prospect. The build quality and craftsmanship on these era of Mercs will never be seen again, truly an over engineered feel everywhere and is the stuff that the Mercedes legend has been built on. Values of good original W123 models are rising year on year.
