remained at the same address all its days and he used the dealer
network to service it. The original bill of sale is present detailing
the vehicle and its options, and the grand price of £6227.27 on the
road price. The factory build sheet is also present together with all
original driver handbooks and the service booklet.

A948 GRE
Mr Sambrook was bought this car by his parents in the summer of 1983
for his 21st birthday and he must have been a delighted young man as
this was cutting edge back in the day. Used and cherished as his daily
car between 1983 and 1989 at which point slightly older and now in
possession of a company car, the GTE went into storage. And there she
lay having the engine turned over and the car moved around on a regular
basis. The reluctance to part with this memorable part of his life
set a determination to keep the car forever and that intention held
strong all the way through to 2015 when life took over and circumstances
forced him to part with his companion of 32 years. At this point he
went about a light recomission of the engine and fueling system making
it ready for sale. It sold to its second owner who never used it all
in the last 18 months and as his circumstances have changed approached
me and asked me to find a rightful deserving home.

Service History - Current Mileage 75309
The engine runs like a sewing machine, it is quiet and refined, all
systems on the car are 100%, and it drives effectively like a 6 year
old example as in reality thats all it is. I booked it in for an MOT
and told the garage not to hold back and actively go looking for
problems, they could not even find a single advisory comment. MOT
is now March 2018. The original service book is present detailing
8 stamps with the last service stamp entry in 22/07/1987 at 69981
miles. The last documented MOT prior to storage which is in the file,
was at 71793 miles on the 24th August 1988, the car went into storage
in the summer of 89 shortly after the 89 MOT expired at a mileage of
75250. There is a good spread of bills even back to the early 80s.

The GTE Mk1 Firecracker
In 1983 hot hatches were still in their infancy and tentatively the
manufacturers were pushing the boundaries with high performance
engines in light front wheel drive small sized hatchbacks. The mk1
Golf GTi aside, in its day the GTE had little competition, the Ford
could not live with it performance wise and it soaked the bumps up
with a more rewarding drive. I actually prefer it to the Golf, its
a thing of real purity and the only other 80s hot hatch that drove
better to my mind is the 205 1.9. The car is effortless and composed
to drive, the power delivery has a sophistication to it and it likes
to rev high like an Alfa, above 4000 rpm it really flies and the engine
is designed to be revved mating well to the 5 speed gearbox. According
to online searches there remains a scarce 9 of these left licenced,
meaning the unlicnesed ones are likely all wrecks. The rarity value
of this alone amounts to a seldom available opportunity to invest in
a whole complete solid example with a lovely story to back it all up.
Miles ahead of the mark 2 car that replaced it.
