1978 MK IV CORTINA 2.0 GHIA AUTOMATIC
Genuine 47000 Miles/3 Previous Owners Original Survivor - Show Example First registered by Dinnages Ford 176 London Rd, Burgess Hill on the 23rd May 1978. This Ghia model is finished in period Roman Bronze and presents exactly as it rolled of the production line, nothing has been changed. It shows 3 previous owners so 4 in total and the mileage is 100 % correct. Complete with matching etched glass all round, original pressed metal plates and rear window decal as supplied by dealer when new. The original key with metal tag, (one other spare) the owners handbooks and manuals and a complete toolkit. A staple of British motoring, the Cortina is a model that everyone can relate to, once commonplace now virtually unseen. This is an endangered classic, data from UK auction houses shows a steep upward trend with values climbing extremely fast, demand is very high and supply is almost zero. Of the few examples on the market in any year it is this quality of life that splits values, this is one of those examples that will help push values further up as others die out. Mk3 Cortina’s have been very much in demand, however good original, rust free, unmolested examples have always been extremely difficult to find and, consequently, the smart enthusiasts, collectors and investors with vision have for some time now been turning there attentions to the next model already rapidly appreciating in value within the Cortina line, the MK1V. This is now the rarest of all Cortina’s, with only 20-30 thought to exist, and very few of them look like this one. WJY 788S factory options metallic paint and Ford radio and mudflaps. A remarkably rust free car with no obvious signs of treatment, apart from the coating on the sills which were black from new anyway. Rock solid everywhere, the underside is in fantastic with no welding at all. The car benefits from a complete recent new exhaust system. The most recent owner’s absolute pride and joy, always kept under covers in a garage when not in use, never intentionally used in the rain and fastidiously maintained personally by him. The first two owners owned it 25 years between them. The third owner bought the car in 2003 as part of a collection and hardly used it. The most recent owner bought in 2013 at 34000 miles and has enjoyed 13000 miles and five years stewardship taking it to many summer shows. Without doubt WJY 788S is one of the best lowest mileage original Mk IV Cortina 2.0 Ghias available anywhere, a very special car indeed and should not be compared to the majority of Mk1V’s for sale, if you can find any. All of its original panels and paint and really does want for nothing, it has some marks that it has picked up over 40 years though nothing you would want to rush out and improve upon, why touch it. The interior is totally preserved, virtually no wear. The roof is immaculate, so is the boot and engine bay. Current MOT until 10th January 2019 with no advise. A very safe place to park your cash is this Classic Cortina. £10,999 |
