Image Portfolio The Ultimate Modern Classic The best of what is left of the E39 cars are slow burbling Modern Classics and truly excellent prestige overengineered vehicles. Setting this car widely apart from other E39s is the fact it’s not a flashy model that’s been passed about half a dozen times and painted as regular as a council corridor. To the contrary, a tasteful SE model with the silky smooth 6-cylinder engine, widely regarded as the best 6-cylinder engine ever made by the manufacturer mated with the elusive manual gearbox. This 20-year-old BMW is among the best used cars I have ever owned, a bold statement considering the length and breadth of my car ownership experience. The originality is captivating, pure and simple, as soon as I walked round it I had to own it, the occasions that has happened are few and far between, the condition is to coin an old trade phrase "Double Dye Mint", as is the cars story read on to see why this is a very special BMW. History Pre delivery inspected and first registered by Stephen James BMW in Middlesex on 28.05.1999 to a Mr Thurgood, he has owned the car ever since. A complete stream of paperwork is present; nothing has ever been misplaced. This is inclusive of all correspondence confirming the new vehicle order, the original bill of sale totalling £35485.84 itemising all options specified, and follow up thank you letters from the dealer. Every MOT is present through to present day. Every vehicle tax reminder form is filed also. Every V5 update is retained. Every dealer service receipt has been kept so its totally transparent what has been done and when. A complete record of every piece of paper the car ownership has ever generated. There are also two immaculate glossy full-size sales brochures from the era, wonderful stuff. A very low 55,000 miles over the course of 20 years, this has been a garaged car (one of 4 he owned) and one of the owners parting comments was " its virtually never been out in the rain as if it were raining i never took it out". The couple have been devoted to their BMW, it presents dare I say still "as new " The car is virtually perfect to the last detail. I purchased the car a few months ago at 52000 miles and have added 3000 miles in that time, I just had to use it, reflecting that it was as close as I was ever going to get to owning a new E39 BMW. Details I have tried to convey in the image gallery, its fine details such as unmarked seatbelts and bolsters, immaculate engine bay, boot, carpets and switchgear. The car drives sublime, it has a fine unused feel and an almost tangible depth to the engineering that is lost today. A study of the underside reveals a dry corrosion free car that is excellent. One that very much has to be seen and driven to be fully appreciated. This car has been maintained with a passion and carefully used cleaned and stored. All bushes and bearings feel as tight as the day it was new. The cabin remains 100 % box fresh with very clean leathers which should suit even the fussiest of tastes, the driver’s seat is unworn as pictured, the rear and boot area barely used, and the foot wells and rears of the seats and the mats are all clean and unspoiled. Everything in full working order. A car can cover a mile in different ways. Some cars can be cleaned and cleaned over the course of a few days and will still only manage to look a percentage of this, the difference here is this one has never got dirty.
