1996 FACELIFT MERCEDES S500 LIMOUSINE Complete Service History 2 Owners From New Scare Phase 2 W140 Rare Black Pearl Low 85000 Miles Chassis - wdb1400512a326894 Engine No - 11998022009513 D O R - 23 08 1996 First registered and pre delivery inspected by Mercedes Benz of Huddersfield to the first owner Mercedes Benz UK where it remained for the first year and eight months as a demonstrator most likely used by one of the senior management. In February 1998 it was sold by MB dealer to a Mr Bennett who stayed in Bury who owned it until September 2001 at which stage the final keeper a Mr Pabani of London took stewardship and has owned the 16 years since. I consider this to be a special Mercedes from the outset, loaded with much specification for dealer purposes, that then passed over to a home that has possessed the funds to look after it and store it correctly. Mercedes-Benz W140 Facelift Mercedes W140/ auto long wheelbase limousine (100mm or 4” longer than a standard W140). This rather rare phase 2 model is among the last of the proper Mercedes cars ever made. These vehicles are quite simply a joy to drive. The high standard of build quality and durability defined the reputation that MB still exploit today despite it peaking at this moment. This was the finest luxury car in the world, it was built to a standard that other manufacturers could only gasp at, setting a benchmark of engineering excellence that has not been surpassed to this day and never will be as costs and bureaucracy prevent it repeating. This very car was in excess of £80,000 new in 1996, that’s close to £150,000 today! Servicing & Bills Serviced by the main dealer network for the first 5 years through to 59,000 miles at which point the second owner moved over to MB specialist AllKlasse in Hertfordshire for care and they have been maintaining for the last 16 years. No expense has been spared and a nice spread of bills accompanies the items detailed below. Of note the timing chain & water pump have been renewed which if not documented as having been done will be an essential overhaul now at this age. The car was not used from Autumn 2011 until November 2016 as the owner resided abroad on a work contract. Shortly after the service in July 2011 it went into storage until November 16, it was not Motd either during this period. In december 16 it was put back on the road and sent right back to the AllKlasse for a recommission, which was very little. 2006 Service at 62469 - Oil & filter, pollen filter, front brake pads, rear brake pads, new sensors. 2007 Service at 68271 - Oil & filter. 2008 Service at 74894 - Oil & filter, air filter, fuel filter, combination filter, front brake discs, new pads, sensors, wiper blades. 2009 Service at 79869 - Timing chain and water pump, oil & filter, new seal ring. 2010 Service at 84025 - Oil & filter, new seal ring, combination filter, new rear brake discs, new pads, new sensors, new wiper blades. 2011 Service at 84521 - Oil & filter, new seal ring, air filter, gearbox oil renewed, new gearbox filter seal ring and gasket set. The Drive Even today this car has enormous road presence. The five litre double overhead cam duplex chain driven 323 bhp V8 engine took Mercedes to Le Mans in 1989 so in its basic state of tune its supremely reliable. These are strong engines, it will still return 25mpg on a cruise, no error messeges, all systems are go. The car is serene and despite the bulk surprisingly manageable thanks to precise steering and braking. Highway cruising is its ace card, whisper quiet with the impression that the horizon is moving towards you rather than you to it. Timeless classic. Exterior Condition The car is presented in Obsidian Black Pearl with a contrasting light Cream leather interior. Zero rust, perfect sills, boot, bottom of doors. The manner in which it has been stored is evident when you open the doors and witness how clean and preserved all inner rubbers are. All panels are original and matching, they align up correctly and the paint is glossy. Cabin The condition of the cabin reflects that of mainly single person use. Virtually no wear indicators, the leather remains healthy and supple. This theme continues to the engine bay and boot area, the headlining is immaculate as are all carpets and switchgear with very little wear, all correct factory labels to panels and engine bay present. Original thick ribbed carpet mats present. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post facelift models changes: Very few of these more desirable facelift cars remaining. The market has woken up to what these nineties Mercs represent and this is a unique car fresh to the market. I have probably overstressed the message already, however this is an outstanding Mercedes. The classic colour scheme can only enhance the long term residual of this enduring modern classic that should now rightly be continued to be treated in the correct way. A great investment. £6,500 |
